‘Friends of the Freo Big Top’ is CircusWA’s bold new fundraising event
SAT 9TH OCTOBER
Our 2021 Friends fundraiser gala will not only entertain but give guests an insight into the work we have been doing and the immense changes which have been bubbling away under the canopy of our now iconic Freo Big Top since 2017. The evening will also outline the various ways individuals, businesses and groups can support our training centre to continue to deliver these social circus programs and artistic developments.
The evening will fuse together a sophisticated night of drinks and canapes with a 360o immersive circus spectacle. The performance component is being created and directed by the inimitable Nathan (Nat) Kell – ex Circus Oz star. The evening will be MC’ed by local Magician Pierre Ulric who will keep conversations flowing and magic unfolding.
Performing in the work are three local circus artists Steph Pick, Ben Kotovski-Steele and Nat Kell himself. Alongside them will be four young circus performers.
Nat describes his production . . .“In this immersive show I call Filium, I hope to bring our guests on a transformational journey. Through smoke, lights and circus magic we will glimpse the beauty, cunning, sadness and elation of the human form. Set to music from composers such as Erik Sartie and Nils Frahm, this work will talk directly to our subconscious stash of archetype characters. Without the other we are incomplete, and without caring for others, power is nothing. I hope our guests will leave with a sense of connection.”
Artistic Director Jo Smith says . . .“We are ecstatic to have survived another complex year in a circus tent in a park. In a way, covid confirmed the strength and integrity of our circus community. Through threads of support and connection, speckled with creativity, we have survived. However, these strengths are not enough to deliver all of our ambitious social programs. This year’s Friends event will be a very unique drinks party with equal parts social, performance and information. We hope our guests will leave wowed! by the power of circus, and motivated to support its ongoing development”
TICKETS – $86 (includes dinner, performance, and a night amongst the circus the Freo Big Top)
